As a national society of microbiologists, the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. (PSM, Inc.) endeavors to enrich and make vibrant and productive the science of microbiology. The Society honors the microbiologist and give recognition for his/her body of works in microbiology so that in some way, others may gain inspiration and the proper motivation to discover, refine and disseminate new scientific information in microbiology.

OUTSTANDING MICROBIOLOGIST AWARD

This award is given in recognition of a microbiologist who has demonstrated excellence in his/her field of specialization through his/her significant contributions in microbiology such as research programs, publications,innovations, advocacy and other endeavors that promote the advancement of science in the Philippines and the Filipino people. His/her contributions are attested to by awards of distinctions received by the candidate in the practice of his/her profession and the type and size of clientele served by the scientific contributions.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD (INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY)

The award recognizes a PSM member who has demonstrated exemplary service by promoting and contributing to its activities and helping promote the science of microbiology through years of dedicated service, sponsorship of legislative measures, etc; and by promoting the image of our country in the global scientific community.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD (INSTITUTIONAL CATEGORY)

The award is given to an institution that has rendered exemplary service to the PSM as a partner in promoting the development of the science of microbiology through the following:

  1. direct financial contributions to the Society?s activities and programmes,
  2. manpower support,
  3. materials and facilities made available to the Society; and
  4. other forms of assistance of value to the same.

PROFESSOR WILLIAM L. FERNANDEZ AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING MICROBIOLOGY

The Professor William L. Fernandez Award for Excellence in Teaching Microbiology honors exemplary teaching in this important field of biology. It recognizes an individual for distinguished teaching in microbiology and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students as a research adviser. The Award also recognizes the ability to facilitate student learning through his/her teaching methods as well as the ability to enhance student interest and appreciation for the field of microbiology.
