Renewal of Certification

Renewal of Certification will be done every three years.  Effective January 1, 2017, all Registered Microbiologists (RMicro) and Specialist Microbiologist (SMicro) shall be required to abide by the requirements, rules and regulations on Continuing Professional Development (CPD)  RMicro and SMicro shall show proofs of CPD requirement completion upon renewal of their PAM Certification. PAM certification is valid for three years.

Objectives of CPD

The objectives of the CPD are as follows:

  1. To ensure the continuous advancement of RMicro and SMicro with the latest trends in the fields of microbiology and other related fields;
  2. To raise and maintain RMicro and SMicro’s capability for delivering professional services;
  3. To maintain the high standard in the practice of microbiology and related fields;
  4. To ensure globally competitive RMicro and SMicro; and
  5. To promote the general welfare of the public.

Required CPD Units

The total CPD credit units required shall be thirty (36) for three (3) years, provided that these units are earned during the three-year period prior to renewal of PAM Certification.  The program and activities that are microbiology-related are qualified for CPD credits, and include the items presented in Table 1.

Any excess credit units for the three-year period will not be carried over to the succeeding years.

Implementation during the Transition Period

A scheme is provided below for those who will be renewing their Certification during the transition period (2017-2019):

From then on, renewal of certification will require 36 CPE units provided that these units are earned during the three-year period prior to renewal.

Submission of Supporting Documents

Both hard and soft copies of the required documents should be submitted to the CPD Committee for validation/verification who will then recommend the approval of the Certification renewal to the Council of Regents.

The required documents are:

  1. Duly accomplished CPD Application Form No.1
  2. Duly accomplished CPD Application Form No.2 (Score Sheet)
  3. Scanned copies of supporting documents (CPD activities)
  4. Bank deposit slip for:
    1. Renewal fee, P3,000
    2. ID card, P300

c..   Fines for late submission (If applicable) P 600/year or a fraction of it

Evaluation of Documents

The CPD  Committee will evaluate the applications for renewal of certification within 6 weeks upon receipt of application and supporting documents.

Notification of Disapproval/Approval

The Certified Microbiologists will be notified of the status of their renewal application within 6 weeks after filing their application for renewal through email.

Renewal shall start on the date of completion of  requirements with a validity of three (3) years.
