PSM’s First Vice President Passes Away

The Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. and Philippine Academy of Microbiology condole with the family of Dr. Ruben B. Aspiras who passed away on January 24, 2016. Dr. Aspiras was the first Vice President of PSM, Inc. when it was established at the Biological Science Auditorium in 1971. He later served as the President from 1973 to 1974. Dr. Aspiras was awarded and recognized as the Most Outstanding Microbiologist (1987) and Most Distinguished Microbiologist (1989). In 1991, PAM was established as an arm of PSM – he was one of the charter members of the academe. He was very active in the academy and served as Vice Chair for three (3) terms, from 1998 to 2001, and Chair of the Council of Regents (May – Oct 2000). Dr. Aspiras was also a member of PAM’s accreditation committee and served as Chair of the Board of Examiner from 2000- 2001.
