The Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) under Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) emphasized that the Philippine Academy of Microbiology (PAM) is a certification body for Registered and Specialist Microbiologists. PAM bases the certification on the written exam administered by PAM. Thus the examination title must be Certification Exam rather than Accreditation Exam.

PAB is the national accreditation body of the Philippines to accredit inspection, testing and certifying bodies and other bodies offering conformity assessment services. PAB is the institution that will accredit PAM as a certifying body for persons compliant to Global Standards IEC/ISO 17024.
