Universiti Teknologi Malaysia hosted two PSM officers for a 5-day research visit and training. Mr. Jeremy Martin O. Torres, M.Sc., PSM Division Representative for Aquatic Microbiology (FY 2012-2013) and an instructor at Ateneo de Manila University together with Dr. Thomas Edison E. dela Cruz, PSM Division Representative for Environmental Microbiology for FY 2012-2013 and a professor of microbiology at the University of Santo Tomas, participated in a short training course on harnessing bioinformatics for in silico design, prediction, and analysis of enzyme-protein structures and functions at the Bioinformatics Laboratory, Faculty of Biosciences and Bioengineering at UTM from October 29 – November 02, 2012.
They also conducted experiments on site-directed mutagenesis and DNA cloning. Mr. Torres and Dr. dela Cruz also shared their research studies to students of UTM. This one-week research visit was made possible through the efforts of Dr. Fahrul Huyop, Deputy Dean of UTM Faculty of Biosciences and Bioengineering and an active member of PSM. Dr. Huyop also served as Division Representative at PSM- Visayas Chapter.
