slide1Since 1992, the Instrument Technology Research Center (ITRC) of the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL) in Hsinchu, Taiwan hosted several International Scientific Instrument Technology workshops (ISITW). This workshop provides a unique opportunity for international cooperation and cultural exchange among the participants from different countries as well as with the people of Taiwan.

The International Scientific Instrument Technology Workshop (2012 ISITW) brought together this year 27 researchers and professors from 10 countries in Southeast Asia and Middle East with a theme “Instrument Technology: Application in Nano, Bio and Green Technology”. Three Filipino researchers were selected from 90 applicants. Dr. Thomas Edison E. dela Cruz (University of Santo Tomas), PSM Division Representative for Environmental Microbiology for FY 2012-2013 attended the said workshop with Dr. Oscar Torres (DLSU) and Dr. Al-Rey Villagracia (DLSU). The two-week workshop included 23 lectures from scientists from Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and USA, a round-table discussion on linkages and international cooperation, a tour to the Hsinchu Science Park and the Institute of Research against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) – Asian Institute of Telesurgery (AITS), and several laboratory visits at the Instrument Technology Research Center, the National Nano Devices Laboratories, and the Institute of Biophotonics at the National Yang Ming University. ISIT workshop was previously attended by two former PSM presidents, Dr. Esperanza C. Cabrera (FY 1997-1998) and the late Dr. Anthony C. Lee (FY 2010-2011).
