Dr. Teodulo Topacio, Jr.: 2009 National Scientist Awardee

Note: This post is over a year old and is kept for archival purposes.

A salute to our staunch colleague, Dr. Teodulo M. Topacio, Jr., of the Philippine Society of Microbiology (PSM), a member since 1972 who was recently conferred the rank and title of National Scientist through Proclamation 1762 on May 7, 2009.

Dr. Topacio, a Caviteno and alumnus of Veterinary Medicine in the University of the Philippines, has been an authoritative figure in animal production and health in the country for more than 50 years. He has also served in government and international agencies such as the Asian Development, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization.

The conferment was in recognition of his works on leptospiral disease of domesticated animals which may provide the foundation for institutional control measures for these ailments. The conferment was also based on the recommendation of the National Academy for Science and Technology (NAST), the country’s premier advisory body on Science and Technology, where our awardee has been an Academician since 1993. His outstanding qualification, track record, and passion for research led to greater achievements, accomplishments and contributions that mark another milestone in the history of Philippine veterinary medicine.

Another laurel has been accorded to PSM and the country in general. Dr. Topacio’s continued search and quest for novel studies is his legacy which will serve as an inspiration for the young generations to emulate.

From your PSM family, Our Congratulations! You have brought pride and honor to us (MPdL)
