1st National Biotechnology Quiz Contest for High School. The Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. (PSM) together with the National Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology of U.P. Diliman (NIMBB), the Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines (BCP) and the Philippine Molecular Biology & Biotechnology Society (UP MBBS) will be holding the 1st National Biotechnology Quiz Contest for high school students. This activity aims to emphasize the significance of biotechnology and other related fields in the development of the country and society, as well as to encourage the youth to take on the challenge of being future scientists. This also seeks to promote meaningful intellectual interaction and camaraderie between students and experts in the field of biotechnology.

In line with these objectives, we invite high schools to participate in the said event. Each high school is entitled to send a maximum of two (2) teams, each team consisting of three (3) members and one (1) alternate. The registration fee is two hundred pesos only (Php 200.00). Registered teams can avail of reading materials relevant to the contest. The quiz contest shall include questions regarding biotechnology and other related fields in biology. The winning teams shall be awarded medals and cash prizes. The regional contests will be held sometime in October of this year (we will announce the exact date and venue in due time). The top qualifying teams will be sent to the national championship which will be held sometime in February 2008 in Metro Manila. Regional winners will compete in the National Finals. Travel expenses will be provided to the participating teams from the regions for the National Finals. Plaque and cash awards await the regional and national winners.
